The Merason story
Daniel Frauchiger is a passionate music lover. Even as a child, he was fascinated by the world of music. Born in 1965, he was initially interested in the charts, later in classical music and jazz. But one thing always bothered him: the poor sound quality coming from loudspeakers and headphones.
When Daniel bought his first record player, he made sure that all the parts – the drive, tone arm and needle – fit together perfectly, even on a limited budget. It was clear to him that the source of the music was the most important link in the playback chain. No loudspeaker in the world could save a poor starting point.
The digitisation of music changed a lot, but our ears remained analogue. Modern amplifiers and loudspeakers need a process that converts digital music into analogue. Daniel realised early on that this process, known as digital-to-analogue conversion, deserves the utmost attention. It is a fine art to design this conversion in such a way that the music remains lively and emotional.
At the end of the 1980s, Daniel bought his first CD player. But after only ten days, he returned it. The music sounded lifeless and annoying. So he stuck with records and cassette tapes and didn't take a closer look at digital playback technology again until 2010.
The search for a good digital-to-analogue converter was not easy. The devices often cost five-figure sums – too much for Daniel. So he converted his own computer so that it could provide music files unchanged at the digital output. He forwarded these to a studio converter. The result was better, but still not good enough.
Daniel was faced with a decision: either stick with vinyl and analogue tape, or create something of his own. He opted for the latter. He found DIY projects and kits on the internet, which he ordered from Asia.
After six months of persuasion, he managed to convince a manufacturer in Hong Kong to collaborate with him on developing an outstanding converter - the DAC 1.
In 2012, the time had come: the first converter, the DAC 1, was launched under the name Purson. Initially, it was sold among friends and acquaintances, but soon the first retailer came forward. Within two months, Daniel had delivered ten units. The DAC 1 underwent continuous development and gained great popularity and numerous awards. Daniel has made it his mission to enable people to enjoy high-quality music.
In 2020, he launched the Merason frérot, a converter that offers excellent sound quality despite its low price and small size. Daniel deliberately relies on external converters to minimise interference and ensure an unadulterated sound experience.
For Daniel, Merason stands for clear, pure and unadulterated music enjoyment. His passion and pursuit of perfection make him and his company unique. Daniel Frauchiger is more than just an entrepreneur – he is a visionary who bridges the gap between music and listeners, offering people the best musical experience.
What our customers say
You love music. But you're disappointed when the sound coming out of your speakers is lifeless, harsh and flat. You're looking for that unique moment when the music grabs you, transports you to another world and you can feel every nuance. That's exactly what our customers have experienced with Merason DACs.
One customer says: ‘I bought the DAC 1 Mk II and am thrilled with the sound quality and simplicity. I trust the manufacturer's recommendation to ensure the best sound quality.’
Our customers' experiences speak for themselves. ‘I bought the frérot together with the pow 1! Hearing is believing. The sound is so good that I don't want to go back to my old set-up.’
Another says: ‘I am the proud owner of a Merason Reuss. After a two-day trial at home, I am overwhelmed. The sound is breathtaking, the live atmosphere is magnificent. I listened to music until 1:30 in the morning without the sound ever becoming annoying or shrill. This is exactly how I love music. I had goosebumps.’
The positive feedback continues: ‘My DAC 1 arrived last week, and after three weeks of break-in time, I am thrilled with the sound. It has replaced a more expensive tube DAC.’
For many, the Merason DAC 1 Mk II is a daily delight: ‘I have owned the DAC 1 Mk II for months, and it brings me new excitement every day. Incredibly musical and a contender for the best DAC at any price. If there's anything I can do to spread the word, let me know.’
Our customers' comments show that Merason DACs are not just a device, but an experience. A customer from France shares: ‘I bought my Merason frérot about a year ago. I bought it based solely on reviews and tests, without hearing it first. I am very satisfied. The qualities described are exactly what I was looking for: timbre, clarity, sense of space, differentiation of instruments and voices, definition. No aggressiveness.’
And someone from Stockholm reports: ‘I listened to the DAC 1 Mk II at my dealer's and find it a significant improvement on my current DAC. The low noise level and the calmness of the sound are particularly striking.’
Every day, our customers experience what it means to hear music in its purest form. You can too. With Merason, you can enjoy clear, pure and unadulterated music. Immerse yourself in the world of beautiful sound. Feel every emotion, every nuance and let the music inspire you. Because at Merason, the listener is the focus – and you can hear it.
